Question: There was a young former street child, who in her address to Pope Francis, spoke about how street children are subjected to various abuses and inhumane treatment. She asked a heartbreaking question: “Why does God allow the little children to suffer?” Pope Francis reply was: ”I don’t know.”

So, I asked God for the answer. I can understand the application of His previous answers to those who have come to the age of reason. I couldn’t apply the answer to infants, little children and those who are mentally retarded/infirmed who become hapless victims of abuse, violence and neglect.

God’s answer:

They have no voice. Pray for them

Meaning: They have no voice is God’s way of summarizing the people I am referring to. They are the ones who have no say on what happens to them.

They have no voice also means that these are people who are unable to pray for themselves either because of their age or condition. So, we have to pray for them.

So, what God is saying is they (those who have no voice) become subjects of gross wrongdoings because they cannot pray for themselves and no one is praying for them. Prayer is the only way by which we attain God’s grace.

God pointed out that we keep questioning His love and compassion but what we don’t do is to pray for the people who we feel need God’s love and intervention. One can say that we do pray for them during prayer gatherings or as part of some general petition. True prayer is from the heart. When you pray, your heart must be in it. So, instead of questioning God...let’s start praying for those who have no voice with passion and compassion.

Question: Why is it necessary for us to pray for them?

God’s answer:

When will you ever learn
You are your brother’s keeper.
